Four Flashcards
1
Q
Qualitative Data collection principles:
A
- investigator involvement may be considerable (active listener, participation)
- data collection and analyses are intertwined
- time spent gaining access and gathering data may be extensive
- multiple methods to gathering data
2
Q
Quantitative data collection principles:
A
- investigator involvement minimal
- data analyses done when all data is available
- data collection may take a long time
- methods remain the same once protocol is determined
3
Q
In qualitative studies how is data accuracy ensured?
A
- Multiple gatherers – training, gather, and analyze independently then compare
- Triangulation (crystallization) – multiple approaches (observe, interview, collect materials)
- Saturation – sufficient information, no new insights
- Member checking – validate assumptions w/informants
- Reflexivity – to elucidate investigator bias
- Audit trail – to explain thinking and action leading to results
- Peer debriefing
