bereaved
someone who is suffering the death of a loved one
It is usually associated with death or dying
dejected
sad and depressed; dispirited.
Think about it as being
rejected (rhymes).
You don’t make the rugby team.
despondent
in low spirits from loss of hope or courage.
This happens after an event that you were looking forward to or thought you could conquer. Similar to dejected, but it is usually connected to an event.
lugubrious
looking or sounding sad and dismal.
This is an expression of your body and your voice and not usually a feeling.
woebegone
sad or miserable in appearance.
This is like lugubrious but it’s even worse. You’re not sad; you’re miserable.
jubilant
feeling or expressing great happiness and triumph.
A soccer player whipping off their shirt after scoring the game winning goal.
blithe
showing a casual and cheerful indifference considered to be callous or improper.
This is inappropriate happiness or misplaced happiness.
Clapping after someone trips and falls down the stairs.
convivial
(of an atmosphere or event) friendly, lively, and enjoyable.
(of a person) cheerful and friendly; jovial.
This is an attribute. A person is usually described as this.
mirth
merry or amusing
This is a very light-hearted adjective. It doesn’t have a lot of weight to it.
elated
ecstatically happy.
This is the happiest you have ever been in your life.
