gave northumberland to Earl Robert, Prince Edgar came south but William surprised him with a huge army and killed all of his men

Harold’s sons from Ireland, 64 ships. King Swegn from Denmark, joined with Prince Edgar at York. -> raised York, William furious so burnt everything and ravaged the north

earl waltheof and Swegn came to an agreement with William

monetary, details very closely who owns what land and how much livestock for example. <5% of land is held by English now

William wasn’t in the country, Edgar tried to ravage but when he heard he came back raging. Malcolm bargained to become William’s vassal

Malcolm asked for his promises back, William summoned him and gave him hostages. didn’t get everything he wanted- rushed an invasion and was killed at northumberland. son killed and Margaret kills herself.

the hostage son Duncan, paid homage to William and became king of scotland
but who did Scots actually want
Scots trapped and kiled duncan in 1094-> dunfenal is king again
