What are the objectives of Turning of the Tide?
Prevention - Reduce the number of Maori entering the justice system.
Reduce are-offending - For those who do enter, make sure as few as possible come back.
Change behaviour - use Police resolution to change behaviour.
Reduce Road Risk - identify risks for Maori road users and mitigate them.
What is our vision in relation to Turning of the Tide?
All Maori will live full and prosperous lives, free from crime and road trauma.
What are the values of Turning of the Tide?
Aroha - We all make mistakes. We stand by people who accept responsibility for their mistakes and try to put things right.
Whakarira - Each generation strives to better themselves, for their own sake and for the sake of the next generation.
Manaakitanga - We are hospitable, fair and respectful. To ourselves and others.
What is the objectives of turning of the tide?
We will prevent opportunistic offending, and crashes, by making both more difficult, more risky, less rewarding, less tempting and less excusable.
What is the operating model for turning of the tide?
Everyone working together to prevent crime and crashes.
Extended families preventing crime and crashes amongst themselves
Talking crime and crash prevention in our homes and schools and maraes
A lot of these things are putting the emphasis on the people working with Police to achieve a common goal. The key here is that both e communities, Iwi leaders and Police all share the common goal and play equally important parts in achieving the goals of turning of the tide.
In order to bring lasting change what social problems that lead to crime will we try and prevent?
Reduce male absenteeism
Improving child super vision
Keeping kids in school
Boosting parenting skills
