Turn Coordinator Flashcards
How does the Turn Coordinator operate?
The turn part of the instrument uses precesion to indicate direction and approximate rate of turn.
A gyro reacts by trying to move in reaction to the force appleid, thus moving the miniature aircraft in proportion to the rate of turn.
The Inclinometer in the instrument is a black glass ball sealed inside a curved glass tube that is partially filled with a liquid. The inclinometer provides the quality of the turn and depicts airplane yaw.
Note : Serves as a backup in case vacuum system fails.
What information does the Turn Coordinator provide?
The miniature aircraft displays the rate of turn, rate of roll and direction of turn.
The ball in the tube indicates the quality of turn (slip or skid).
Slip - Ball moves to the inside fo the turn when the rate of turn is too slow for the angle of bank.
Skid - Ball moves to the outside of the turn when the rate of turn is too great for the angle of bank.
What is the source of power for the Turn Coordinator?
Turn coordinator gyros cna be driven by either air or electricity; some are dual-powered.
Mine is electically powered.
Note: Refer to AFM for specifics.
