Convection turbulence
A
Caused by heating land surfaces which cause convective currents and if the air is sufficiently moist convective cloud

Mechanical turbulence
A
Caused by friction between the earth’s surfaces and the wind (most severe on the lee side of mountains e.g. rotors and downdrafts)

A
Clear Air Turbulence - is the turbulent movement of air masses, it’s caused when bodies of air moving at different speeds meet

Wake turbulence
A
Is the turbulence within the wingtip vortices caused by the pressure differential used to produce lift, it results in a circular flow pattern
