Tumours Flashcards
3 tissue origin groups
Epithelial
Mesenchymal
Mixed
give the epithelial odontogenic tumours
Ameloblastoma
Adenomatoid odontogenic tumopur
Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumour
Describe ameloblastoma , histo and radio
Epithelial benign tumour that is locally invasive and slow growing
Post mandible
Multicystic thick curved septa (soap bubble appearanece)
well def corticated radiolucency
Histo
Amelo blast like cells
Stellate reticulum like tissue
Fibrous tissue
Cystic change
Describe Adenomatoid odontogenic tumour
Benign epithelial tumour
Anterior maxilla
Same as dentigerous (unerupoted tooth) but typically attaches apical to CEJ
Histo
Patchy calcifications
Duct like structure
Describe odontogenic myxoma
Benign mesenchymal tumour
Well defined radiolucency +/- thin corticated margins
Small = unilocular
Larger = multilocular (soap bubble)
Histo
L
- Loose myxoid tissue with stellate cells
- No capsule
- islands of inactive odontogenic epithelium
Describe Odontoma
Benign mixed tumour
Compound = ordered mass of dental hard tissue
Complex = disoragnised mass of dental hard tissue
Dentine, enamel, cementum , pulp
