Tulving first made the distinction between episodic and semantic memory in a book where he aimed to reduce the ambiguity around the nature of LTM.
Tulving makes a distinction between different types of LTM: procedural (facts, data and events) and declarative, and the declarative memory could be divided into 2 memory stores: episodic and semantic.
