Water in fuel system
Arguably the greatest problem to fuel systems.
Primary filter
The first filter in the fuel stream from the fuel tank.
Before the transfer pump.
Removes large particles.
Secondary filter
The second filter in the fuel stream.
Located between the primary filter and the high pressure fuel injection.
Gear pump
Positive displacement. ( one way check valve)
Pressurizes the output side to very high pressure.
Diaphragm pump
Supplies fuel at low pressure (7 psi).
Engine camshaft activates this pump.
Piston-type pump
Operated by the camshaft.
Can withstand higher pressures.
Hand primers
Required for priming newly installed filters.
Also purges air from the fuel system when turned off.
Roller vane pumps
A permanent magnet electric motor rotates rollers.
Two check valves are located in the this pump one on each inlet an outlet.
Vane-type pumps
Pump that uses rotating vanes or rollers to pressurize fuel
Distributer-type pump
Fuel transfer pumps
Used to move low-pressure fuel from the fuel tanks to the high pressure fuel system.
Rack position
Changes plungers rotary position.
