Describe what happened in the Yorkshire Rebellion?

A

Date: 1498
Monarch: Henry 7th

Facts: people were unhappy with the suffering of bad taxation and poor harvest, as Henry introduced the Subsidy tax to pay for the negotiation with Brittany and France, Rebels attempted to march to Henry but the Earl of Northumberland ended the rebellion before Henry even got there. Only £27000 was raised and Henry never used the Subsidy again.

Threat level: wasn’t threatening at all as Henry defeated the leader of the rebellion, the only threat is that he stopped using the subsidy and couldn’t fund for the Brittany campaign to keep their independence.

Describe what happened in the Cornish Rebellion?

A

Date: 1497
Monarch: Henry 7th

Facts: Henry raised taxes to pay for debts from Warbeck rebellion, Cornwall refused to contribute and 15000 rebels campaign to London and tried to defeat the monarch.

Threat level: Didn’t have much of an impact and Henry overthrew them, Henry’s army killed 1000 of the rebels in the battle of Blackheath and the leaders were put to death.

Describe what happened in the Lambert Simnel Rebellion?

A

Date: 1487
Monarch: Henry 7th

Facts: Lambert Simnel pretended he had the Yorkist claim to the throne of the boy who was in the tower and attempted to overthrow Henry, Henry changed his coronation date to become king therefore defeated Lambert Simnel .

Threat level: It was Henry’s first ever rebellion, was a quite threatening because t almost put him out of power but didn’t last that long and was dealt with quickly.

Describe what happened in the Warbeck Rebellion?

A

Date:1491-1499
Monarch: Henry 7th

Facts: Warbeck pretended to be Warwick, who everyone thought was dead as he had a claim to the throne through Irish relations, he had support from Margaret of Burgundy.

Threat level: Charles welcomed Warbeck and 100 supporters to Paris, Henry broke off all trade with Flanders to stop the threat level, it was quite threatening , he was left with hardly any alliances around the world as he lost Spain and the Holy Roman Empire.But they were defeated as they lost interest and Maximillian want that powerful.

Describe what happened in the Pilgrimage of Grace?

A

Date: 1536
Monarch: Henry 8th

Facts: 40,000 rebels were unhappy against the dissolution of monasteries and the break with Rome, they weren’t happy with the radical push to Protestantism and people weren’t happy and they all marched to Lincoln.

Threat level: was quite threatening because nobles were involved in the rebellion which means they had a lot of support, was threatening because of the support but it failed because the nobles eventually released they and had too much to loose and Henry defeated them.

Describe what happened in the Amicable Grant Rebellion?

A

Date: 1525
Monarch: Henry 8th

Facts: the amicable grant was imposed by Thomas Wolsey, people were already unhappy with Wolsey foreign policy so they didn’t like this tax, he granted it for the debts of other rebellions an invasion of France.

Threat level: 1000 men rebelled but it was eventually crushed by the dukes of Norfolk and Suffolk, threatening because it made Henry abandon his foreign plans.

Describe what happened in the Prayer book/ Western Rebellion?

A

Date: 1549
Monarch: Edward

Facts: people didn’t like the new introduction of the common book of prayer and the radical change to Protestantism so the rebelled as some areas were still strong Catholics. rebels started the revolt, but somerset defeated them.

Threat level: Wasn’t that threatening because they defeated the rebels, but it did attack the religious reform ideas and made him change bask to some catholic elements.

Describe what happened in the Kett Rebellion?

A

Date: 1549
Monarch: Edward

Facts: people were unhappy with the land enclosures,
and rebels destroyed fences put up by wealthy land owners, 16000 set up a camp in Mouse Hold House, ad the rebels marches to Norwich.

Threat level: not that threatening as the leader was held in the tower of London, and tried for treason.
