Describe how the use of the Household changed over the monarchs?
Henry 7th : Bought the Exchequer into the household to deal with finance. Kings private state and dealt with political debates, the funds for the household were paid by ordinary income through feudal dues,
Henry 8th: reduced Gentlemen of the Bed Chamber from 14 to 7. Introduced Groom Of The Stool and created a Privy Council of friends and extended the use of the Privy Chamber.
Edward: Northumberland extended the household to his own friends, but somerset takes it into own hands and moved it to his house instead of London.
Describe how the use of the Royal Council/ Privy Council changed over the monarchs?
Henry 7th: used the Royal Council , had 227 members, but only had 7 regular attendances. Keeper of the Privy Seal but only really met at times of emergency.
Henry 8th: Henry used Privy Council, Wolsey reduced it to make influence greater, and Henry introduced courts to deal with everyday domestic matters.
Edward: changed back to Royal Council, continued use of Privy Seal, Somerset and Northumberland extended their control.
Describe how the use of the Local government changed over the Monarchs?
Henry 7th: Had Regional Councils in the South and North, had Justices of the Peace in local areas.
Henry 8th: kept Local Councils and JP’s, reformed the shire system under Cronwell .
Edward: continued JP’s and Regional Councils, didn’t have a change.
Describe how the use of the Parliament changed over the Monarchs?
Henry 7th: only met 7 times, strong relationship because they Pre-dated his reign and give him extra ordinary finance.
Henry 8th: Omnicompetence of statute, helped with demand in foreign policy, passed all the protestant acts like the Act of Supremacy, Treason Act, Act of Succession.
Edward: Edward used parliament for reformation, passed act of uniformity.
Describe how the use of Crown Finance changed over the Monarchs?
Henry 7th:
Used Ordinary and Extraordinary, Ward ships, Crown lands, New book of rates, Council learned in law with Empsun and Dudley.
Henry 8th: 1513 Subsidy Tax, moves back to Exchequer, uses Ordinary and Extraordinary finance, bonds and recongnances, tonnage and poundage and acts of resumption and debased coin and had funds from the dissolution and Amicable Grant.
Edward: Continued the same finance, and debased the coin, but northumberland rebased the coin and stopped inflation.
