Tubular Function L of H Flashcards
1
Q
what does the ascending portion do?
A
-chucks out salt
2
Q
what does the descending portion do?
A
- chuck out water
3
Q
what vessels are wrapped around the Loop of Henle
A
- vassa rector
4
Q
what is the purpose of the L of H
A
- allows as much water to be reabsorbed by collecting ducts and DCT
- also if theres already too much water, allows collecting duct to remove the excess water
5
Q
what is the osmolality like at the bottom of the L of H
A
- very high
- filtrate v concentrated, water chucked out
6
Q
what is the osmolality like at the top of the L of h
A
- very low
- dilute filtrate
- water come in, salts chucked out
7
Q
what are the channels in ascending side good at?
A
-throwing out salts into interstitum (NaCl in particular)
8
Q
why does water not follow?
A
- no aquaporins, water pores
- cells tightly packed together - doesn’t allow water to follow
9
Q
why does water come out in descending L of H
A
- salt in intersitium
- therefore water comes out
- a lot of aquaporins and water pores
10
Q
how do drugs work on the L of H?
A
- drug blocks the sodium/potassium channel in ascending loop of H
- this means no salt is extruded in intersitium
- no corticomedullary gradient created
- no salt gradient surrounding collecting duct
- no water moves out of collecting duct bc no salt gradient exists
- water passed into urine, plasma vol drops and therefore b.p. drops.
