What causes TB
-A bacterium called “Mycobacterium”
What does TB affect
-Mainly the lungs and makes it hard to breathe
How is TB spread
-It is mainly spread by breathing in airborne bacteria from an infected person
What is extrapulmonary TB
-When the bacteria spread to other parts of your body and damages those parts as well, these include:
-The digestive system
-Bones
-Joints
-The Nervous system
-Skin
This is less common than normal TB
How can you determine if a person is infected with TB
-An X-ray
-A skin test
How does Tb tie back to HIV/AIDS
-It is the most important opportunistic infection of people with HIV
What are some symptoms of TB
-A dry cough that later produces blood or sputum
-Coughing for longer than a month
-Chest pain
-Breathing difficulties
-Weakness or fatigue
-Loss of weight & appetite
-Chills & fevers
How is TB treated
-With Antibiotics
What happens if TB isnt properly treated
-If Antibiotics aren’t taken for the entire 6 months then some of the TB bacteria will survive and they will become resistant to the antibiotics
