Isidoniazid INH
Pppt can try b6 for neuropathy
Most often given in combination with other medication to help prevent resistant strains of TB
Avoid anything that will further cause liver damage
6-9 months of treatment
Sever and sometimes fatal hepatitis
Adverse effects of isoniazid INH
Increased liver enzymes
Neuropathy
Neurotoxicity
Rash
Hepatitis
Injury of liver
Rhabdomyolysis
Seizure
Rifampin
Not usually given for any other infections but myobacterial infections
Monitor LFT’s
Tell pt to report abd pain, fatigue, or yellowing of skin or eyes
Warn pt that body fluids may turn reddish orange will stain soft contact lens
Can interfere with BC pilll/ implant
Can be given PO,IV< IM
Rifampin adverse effects
Hepatotoxcity
Anaphylaxis
Nephrotoxicity
Renal failure
Disseminated intravascular coagulation
Easy bleeding, slow clotting
Instruct pt may cause sun sensitivity
Instruct ppt to report any bleeding to HCP
Pyrazinamide
When combined with Rifampin
Increase chance of liver toxicity
Inform pt s/s of gout and to be cautious about sensitivity
Available in PO, IM, IV
Adverse effects of pyrazppinamide
Hyperuricemia
Nausea
Vomiting
Arthralgia
Anemia
Hepaptotoxicity
Ethambutol
Instruct pt to report any visual changes, neuropathy to HCP
Generally well tolerated
Ethambutol adverse effects

Anaphylaxis
Optic neuritis
