TT 6 Flashcards
What will happen if the toe lever is too short during gait?
pt will advance through knee flexion too quickly
What will happen if the toe lever is too long during gait?
- knee stays extended too long
- looks like leg is longer (higher ASIS)
What might cause a step-to gait pattern?
- fear
- lack of adequate gait training
- pain
What does gait look like with a short prosthesis?
Pelvis and shoulder lean toward prosthesis side
If the foot is outset, the prosthesis tilts _______
medially
Where is the pressure on the residual limb with an outset foot?
- proximal lateral
- distal medial
What happens to BOS and resulting gait with an outset foot?
- wider BOS
- harder to advance foot
- need lateral trunk lean
Where is the pressure on the residual limb with an inset foot?
- proximal medial
- distal lateral
What happens to BOS and resulting gait with an inset foot?
- narrow BOS
- lateral (varus) thrust
- almost looks like tandem walking
Where is the pressure on the residual limb with a lateral leaning pylon?
- proximal medial
- distal lateral
To determine if it’s a lateral leaning pylon, look here
angle between pylon and shoe
Where is the pressure on the residual limb with a medial leaning pylon?
- proximal lateral
- distal medial
Differentiating medial leaning pylon vs. pt apprehension causing abduction?
- if whole leg is abducted, it’s not the pylon
- look at the angle between the pylon and foot
Where is the pressure on the residual limb with too hard a heel?
- proximal posterior
- cushioned by soft tissue
What happens at the knee with too hard a heel?
increased buckling
What happens at the knee with too soft a heel?
increased hyperextension
Socks: initial fit
Will fit wearing 3 ply but increase over time
When does the pt need a new socket?
between 8 and 15 ply
Who would not need socks?
someone who uses a gel liner
How would someone with a gel liner adjust fit?
can add socks to the outside of the liner
Initial mass loss
pt will continue to lose some mass even once they have their socket
