TT 20 Yew Street Flashcards

1
Q

A pretty serious accident, but no crowd around.

A

He flashed on that crowd in the Ray Bradbury story. They would show up at every accident, the same crowd. But this morning, not even them.
No crowd, no tow truck or ambulance or police.
Nothing but a Globe And Mail truck and a car,
jammed together, blocking Yew Street.

just like that he thought of an explanation.

A

It had just happened, no time for the police to get there yet. And if the accident had just happened,
there must be somebody in the truck, maybe unconscious.

Q

He started to run over to the truck,

A

until it occurred to him what might be waiting for him. Slowed down, skirted around the vehicles.
Nobody in the car, that wasn’t surprising, it was parked by the side of the road.
The cab of the truck was too high to see in,
the door was jammed so he couldn’t open it.

Q

the door was jammed so he couldn’t open it.

A

Not sure he wanted to see what was inside,
but he climbed up anyway.
Nobody in there either.
No body, no blood, just broken glass.

Q

the steering wheel column

had been driven into the seat back.

A
Nobody. Not in the truck, not in the car.
Not on the sidewalk.
Nobody peering from apartment windows,
no police, nobody.
No body. But where did the driver go?
