TSA Winter Ops Flashcards
When is Cold Wx Preflight required?
If OAT is below 10C
Anti-Ice fluids
Type 2 & Type 4 (Long Holdover time)
Special emphasis on what items in cold Wx preflight?
Upper wing, tail surfaces and attached surfaces
Landing gear doors, actuators
Steering components
Pitot/static system, AOA vanes and fuel Tank vents
Pack inlets and exhaust
APU, Engine inlets
What are the methods of recognizing aircraft surface contamination?
- Visual walk around
- Tactile Inspection
- Pre-Takeoff Check
- Pre-Takeoff contamination Check
- Post Deice Visual Inspection
A Tactile Check is required
OAT < 6 C Can't be ascertained that wind fuel temp is above 0 C AND - Visible moisture - Water on the wing - diff. Between temp. & dew is 3 C or < - Frost - Upon capt. Request
When is “Pre-T/O Contamination Check” is required?
Once Hold over time is exceeded, Within 5 min of Take-off.
If unable then need to return for further deicing
When does hold over time being?
Beginning of Second Application
What Parts of the plane are Heated with Hot Air?
Wings, Tail, Engine Lip
- Ground Icing Conditions
Less than 10°C and frozen precipitation falling
Type 1
50/50 mix with water. Applied Hot. Color: Orange to Pink. (Deice and anti ice)
Type 3
100% concentration, Applied Hot. Color: Pale Straw (Deice, anti ice)
Type 2
100% concentration. Wings, tail & top of fuselage only. Cleared by 130 kts. Color: Clear or amber. ( Anti Ice)
Type 4
100% concentration. Wings, tail & top of fuselage only. Cleared by 130 kts. Applied Cold. Color: Green ( Anti Ice)
What are the 2 types of Deicing/Anti-Icing operations?
(1) D/A in Normal Conditions
(2) D/A in Ground Icing Conditions
D/A Aircraft Configuration
(1) Set Parking brake
(2) Flaps 0, ailerons neutral
(3) Trim full nose down
(4) Gust lock set
(5) All windows, doors, em. Exits are closed
(6) Off gate - Engines idle/ bleeds&a packs off/ APU off
(7) On gate - Engines off/ bleeds & packs off/ APU on (with GPU)
