US promised to stop the spread of communism
This was the policy of containment
Communism would be ‘contained’ in the USSR and eastern Europe and wouldn’t be able to spread any more
Started with $400 million in economic and military aid for greece
It meant that the US would make use of political, economic and military power to prevent any further spread of communism world wide

Q

how could you use the Truman Doctrine as evidence of US aggression? How can the Truman Doctrine be used to blame the US for the Cold War? [2]

A

US publicly said that they would stop communism from spreading
Referred to communism as containment, sounds like an experiment gone wrong
If i were stalin i would see this as an invite to war. Implying that the communist offendors is the USSR
US also publicly claimed that all capitalist people were under threat of communism
Suggests that the US were preparing for war and asking all other countries should do the same
Intimidating for USSR
Because of this, the cold war started
