Tropical Rainforests Flashcards
Describe the climate for tropical rainforests
hot and wet all year round.
What is biodiversity?
Biodiversity is all the different kinds of life you’ll find in one area
Give an example of an interdependent relationships in the tropical rainforest ecosystem?
one kind of interdependent relationship would be the bees and butterflies that help pollinate many kinds of flowers or the bats and birds that carry pollen to other areas so that new plants can grow.
Describe one way that humans are interfering with interdependent relationships in tropiocal rainforests.
Deforestation involves chopping down trees, exposing the forest floor to sunlight and reducing the number of trees in the rainforest
Describe 2 adaptations of plants and 2 of animals in tropical rainforests.
Plants= thick waxy leaves, drip tips,
Animals= have strong limbs to move around quickly and easily, short wings so they can manoeuvre.
Give 6 causes of deforestation in tropical rainforests.
Direct human causes of deforestation include logging, agriculture, cattle ranching, mining, oil extraction and dam-building
How is the global rate of deforestation changing?
Our analysis shows that global deforestation in 2022 was over 1 million hectares above the level needed to be on track to zero deforestation by 2030.
Why is it important to protect tropical rainforests?
Without rainforests, our planet is unable to mitigate excess greenhouse gas emissions, which destabilizes the Earth’s climate.
