Tropic Response Flashcards
What is tropisms?
Tha way the plants respond to stimuli such as light or gravity
What is gravitropism
Grwith response to gravity
Gravitropism-
Roots are positively or negatively gravitropic positioned
Positively positioned
Why are roots positively positioned
Grom downwards absorb mineral& water
Grow the same direction as the stimilus
Shoots are negatively/positively positioned?
Negatively positioned
Why are the shoots nrgatively positioned
Grow upwards- to sunlight
What is auxin?
A hormone
What does auxin do?
Plant hormone which controls growth
What does auxin do in shoots?
Stimulates growth- cells elongate
What does AU do in roots?
Inhibits growth- slowing cell elongation
What happens when auxin in shoot?
AU builds up on the lowest side
Stimulates the cells to elongate- grow on lower side_ BEND UPWARDS
What is phototropism?
Plants respond to light
What is positevely phototropic
Shoots- grow upwards for sunlight
Advantage of phototropism
Leaves expose the max surface srea to light
What are synthetic plant hormones?
Selective weedkillers
