what is trochanteric bursitis?
A
inflammation of a bursa over the greater trochanter on the outer hip.

what can cause inflammation of the the trochanter?
A
Friction from repetitive movements
Trauma
Inflammatory conditions (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis)
Infection – referred to as septic bursitis

which special tests should you do for diagnosis?
A
Trendelenburg test
Resisted abduction of the hip
Resisted internal rotation of the hip
Resisted external rotation of the hip
positive trendelburg test- hip will drop in the hop position

what are management options?
A
Rest Ice Analgesia (e.g., ibuprofen or naproxen) Physiotherapy Steroid injections
antibiotics if it is due to an infection

how long does it take to get better?
A
It can take 6-9 months to recover fully, sometimes longer.
