Trinucleid trilobites Flashcards
What is the classification of Trinucleid arthropods?
Order- Asaphida
Sub-order - Trinucleina
What are the characteristics of suborder trinucleina?
Blind, no dorsal facial sutures, glabella expands forwards.
Six thoracic segments.
Triangular pygidium.
Cephalon may have pitted fringe or long anterior spine
Based on the classification of trinucleid arthropods what was our hypothesis mode of life?
Due to being blind we thought this might mean it was a burrower (like moles)
Based on the facial suture of trinucleid arthropods what might its mode of life indicate?
Head is relatively streamline and not shovel like which does not benefit burrowing
What is the purpose of a pitted fringe?
potentially a sensory organ
NOt a hole all the way through so not filter
BAsed on its size what would the power and limb size of trinucleid trilobites be?
Very small axial lobe with little room for large limbs so it wouldnt have been a powerful animal
What was the function of the genal spines of trinucleid trilobites?
Act as support of a nest like position in sediment
What is the mode of life of trinucleid?
Benthic- living on the sea floor and making small divots to rest in
What do burrowing trilobites look like?
Smooth shovel like head with large axial lobe to provide the power to move sediment
