Trigger 7 (TBI) Glial cells Flashcards
name the glial cells in the CNS
CNS: Astrocytes, Microglia, Oligodendrocyte and ependymal cells
name the glial cells in the PNS
Satellite cells and schwann cells
What are the 3 functional types of microglia and what situations they are associated with
Ramified (starry)-surveillance
Activated:
- Rod: chronic inflammation
- Amoeboid: phagocytic/acute inflammation (becomes hyper-ramified before this)
What are the polarisation states of microglia, associated immune molecules and what kind of response?
M0: BDNF and IGF-1
M1: IL-beta, TNF alpha, IFN-gamma. infiltration and neuronal damage
M2: IL-4 and IL-13. Anti-inflammation response (IL-4, IL-10, TGF-beta and IGF-1 released)
What are the hallmarks of primed microglia?
increase in MCHII and CD68
What happens when primed microglia encounter another immune challenge?
hyperactivated. extremely increased levels of IL-1beta, TNF-alpha, CS14 and iNOS release
