Trigger 7 (TBI) experimental models Flashcards

1
Q

Explain what a controlled cortical impact injury model is and what sorts of brain injuries it is helpful for?

A

uses a machine that has a set depth to impact the mouse brain at a given location.
useful for concussion, axonal injury and BBB dsyfunction

Q

How do the two Weight drop models differ and what kinds of injuries do the model?

A

Marmarou’s: diffuse (widespread). metal disk used over skull to prevent fractures. weight dropped onto it
Shohami’s: focal (localised). Weight dropped onto unprotected side of skull
