Trigeminal Nerve Maxillary Division Flashcards
Is the maxillary division motor or sensory?
Sensory
Where does the V2 exit the skull?
Foramen rotundum in the greater wing of sphenoid
After leaving the skull, where does V2 run?
It enters the pterygopalatine fossa and gives off several branches, then into the orbit via the inferior orbital fissure.
What is V2 called once in the orbit?
The infraorbital nerve
Describe the path V2 takes .
Leaves cave in temporal bone Runs in base of cavernous sinus Into skull via foramen rotundum Into Pterygopalatine fossa Orbit via inferior orbital fissure Crosses infraorbital groove Enters infraorbital canal Exits maxilla via IO foramen
What branches are given off in the IOC?
MSD
ASD
What are the terminal branches?
Palpebral
Nasal
Labial
What branches are given off in the pterygopalatine fossa?
Posterior superior dental Zygomatic Greater and lesser palatine Long sphenopalatine Pharyngeal
What does PSD nerve supply?
Pulps of molars
Perioligament
Mucous membrane of antrum
What does the zygomatic branch supply?
Sensation to skin of temple and cheek
What are the branches of the zygomatic nerve?
Zygomaticofacial
Zygomaticotemporal
Which nerves are given off via the pterygopalatine ganglion?
Greater palatine
Lesser palatine
Long sphenopalatine
Describe the path the long sphenopalatine nerve takes:
Runs forwards on the vomer and exits via the incisive foramen on the anterior of the hard palate
Which nerves supply pulps of maxillary teeth?
