Life cycle

A

1) embryonate eggs ingested
2) larvae hatch in small intestine
3) larvae ingrate to transverse and ascending colon, –> mature into adults and mate
4)adult female she’d unembryonated eggs which pass out in faces
5) eggs embryonate in soil
6£ eggs pass our within 3 months. Female adult love 1.5-2 years

Pathogenesis

A
  • structural defects in epithelium
  • histo pathology damage to gut
  • wavy infections cause ileitis and anaemia

Clinical disease

A
  • acute dysentery
  • leading to diarrhoea
  • chronic colitis
  • protracted tenesmus–> leads to rectal prolapse
  • chronic infections causes deficits in cognitive and inter lecture development
