Triage Flashcards
What does ABCD stand for?
Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability
What is MBS stand for and what are they?
Major body systems
Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Neurological
3 triage phone questions that shouldn’t be left out
1) what is the nature of the injury
2) Are they breathing and concious
3) Number and ETA
How does Adrenaline work?
Improves cardiac output and spontaneous circulation by vasoconstriction
What do you assess for the cardiovascular system?
- MM, CRT
- Pulse deficit & Quality
- HR & heart rhythm
What anatomy is lower airway?
Trachea, Lungs, Diaphragm
What does cyanotic MM mean?
- Blueish colour
- Due to deoxygenated RBC’s
Physical signs of dyspnoea
Panting (cat) Abducted elbows Extended neck & head Strained facial expression Increased abdominal movement
4 quadrants of auscultating lungs:
1) Cranial Caudal
2) Cranial Dorsal
3) Ventral Caudal
4) Ventral Dorsal
Reason for a tracheostomy?
Upper airway obstruction that can’t be resolved quickly
One observation it’s upper airway obstruction and now lower?
Audible noise = upper airway
Anatomy of laryngeal paralysis :
The arytrnoids of the larynx don’t function correctly on respiration & don’t open properly.
Making breathing difficult
4 ways to provide O2 for respiratory distressed patients :
1) Flow-by
2) E-collar with cling wrap
3) O2 chamber
4) Nasal prongs
Another aid to help respiratory distressed patients
Sedation
What’s pleural effusion?
Fluid between the lung & body wall of chest
