Lagrein
Mainly in Alto Adige. Offspring of Teroldego, irregular yields, dark skin→among the darkest of Italian red, black, inky color with fair tannin and very high acidity. Rose style Kretzer.
Region:
Schiava
Native from Adige, a group of varieties sharing common characteristics. 3 main: Grossa, Gentile, Grigia.
Large clusters. Generally pale, light to medium-bodied, red fruits. Often blend with Lagrein to make deeper wines.
aka. Vernatsch (which means native), Trollinger in Germany (Urban in Wurttemberg).

Schiava, lagrein for red (more than 60% of total), PN is the 3rd red. CS, ML, CF.
Most planted white are SB and PG, also GEW (aka. Savagnin Rose≠Traminer), CDY, PG (Rulander), Muller-Thurgau etc.
Less important: Moscato Rosa (Rosenmuskateller), Malvasia (red), Moscato Giallo (≠MBPG)

traditional method sparkling, blend of PB, CDY and PN. Lees aging≥15m, riserva≥36m.
Alto Adige Lagrein di Gries DOC
aka. Sudtirol Grieser Lagrein DOC, mainly Lagrein, warm and sunny, also rosato (kretzer) style.

Sub-zone within Alto Adige, famous for white wines especially SB. Considered the regional historic home of SB, also other whites too.

cross of Riesling and Schiava, mainly in Valle Isarco
Valle Isarco
Sub-zone of Alto-Adige, the most northerly in Italy. Mainly with white planted on high altitudes: Sylvaner, Kerner, Muller Thurgau, etc.
VT, passito, riserva
Klausner Laitacher
the only red wine permitted with in Valle Isarco, blend of Schiava, Lagrein, Portugieser and PN.

Producing the largest quantity of Schiava (≥85% in the blend)→light, quaffable and refreshing.

Teroldego
Style: deep color, meaning big&fat, high acidity and low tannin. Herbal notes.
region: only in Trentino, mostly and native from Rotaliano
Rotaliano DOC
This DOC requires 100% Teroldego, riserva≥2 yrs aging. Rosato/Kretzer for rose style. Now riserva can only be under superiore label.
A large, gravelly, sandy plain.
Foradori
Teroldege was a simple quaffing wine before, until 1980s Elisabetta Foradori improved the quality by massal selection, lower yields and guyot training system.

The breeze that blows northward across Lake Garda into Trentino, moderating the Mediterranean-like climate of Trentino.
Nosiola
Ancient grape native to Trento. Late-ripening, lemon and green hazelnut notes.
Mostly used to make Vino Santo in Valle dei Laghi, and dry versions in Valdadige.

Trentino Vino Santo DOC

Nosiola grape, air-dried on graticci (aka. appassimento) in high, well-ventilated rooms that allow the Ora del Garda (breeze) through.
During the 5-6 months’ appassimento, the grapes are affected by botrytis.
Alcohol FMT may take 2-3 years to reach 12-13% abv, then aged ≥3yrs in small oak barrels (most producers will age the wine for 7-10 yrs).
Vin Santo Superiore DOC is produced from a more restricted area, with higher standards, e.g longer appassiment, higher potential alc, ≥4yrs aging, etc.

Trento DOC
First production of sparkling wines were introduced by Giulio Ferrari in 1902
The first Italian DOC dedicated exclusively to traditional method sparking wines in 1993, made from mainly CDY (dominant)+PN, sometimes PG or Meunier can be added.
NV≥15m on lees, millesimato≥24m, riserva (must be a vintage) ≥36m, also rosato and rosato riserva.
