- there are are a number of trends in human settlement
- some are global trends, meaning they are happening around the world
- others are occurring within certain countries

A
- occurring on a global scale
- people are leaving rural communities to move to urban settlements in hopes of finding a better life

Moving from major cities to smaller towns
A
- occurring in some countries
- some ppl might feel safer there
- major cities might be to loud for some ppl, a smaller town would be much more quiet
- overpopulation

Increasing human settlement causing loss of habitat
A
- The building of cities and towns destroys the natural habitats of many animals(eg draining a wetland to construct a city over it)
- the government and other large corporations may build in those places to expand and make more money off of that area

Urban sprawl
A
- urban sprawl refers to the spreading of urban developments ( such as houses or shopping centres) on undeveloped land near a city
- in short, it means that cities are expanding quickly to cover a larger area
- the government or large corporations could want to take and use or sell the land to expand and make more money
