Spatial Patterns In Human Settelment (part 1) Flashcards
2 main problems with earths resources
- Resources are taken for granted and misused
- People in developed countries (eg, Canada) use a much larger share than people in developing countries(eg nigeria)
In short, the earth does not have enough resources to sustain the population if the population were to continue increasing at this rate.
Sustainability
The use of resources at a rate which meets the needs of the present generation but also ensures plenty for future generations
Population distribution
The patterns of where people live
Scattered population
Rural, scattered, spread along a larger area. Caused by scattered resources, bad climates and bad terrain
Clustered population
Many people, small area. Caused by favourable climate, a good and plentiful amount of resources, and sometimes major transportation routes
Linear population
Settles along a line, most often along a road, river, valley, or other major transportation routes
Population density
The number of people occupying a certain area of land
Population divided by area in sq.km = people per sq.km
13.7/sq.km
