Definition of tremor

A

Involuntary rhythmic movement of 1 or more body parts.

Simulated by alternating contractions of reciprocal muscles

Disappears on movement, appears rest

Is exaggerated by contralateral movement.

Examples:

  • Pill rolling tremor in Parkinson’s disease.
  • Drug induced: Haloperidol, other antipsychotics (DA blocking)

Postural tremor

A

Tremor that occurs during sustained muscle contraction but disappears at rest.

Present in outstretched limb or maintained postured against gravity

Example
- Benign essential tremor
