Q

how to perform Cheiroscopic tracing

A

Purpose: tests for postural stability, binocular alignment , visual attention , and central suppression Method: Diagnostic - place target in front of the L eye if they are right handed and trace the object ,; For therapeutic direct , place the target infront of the eye that is suppressing and use that same hand to trace directly over the target ;, repeat this with a small piece of colored acetate over the blank sheet of paper in front of the R eye, repeat again with a large X drawn over the area in front of the R eye ; For therapeutic indirect the imge is placed infront of the R eye ( nonsuppressing) and you trace with the left hand ( the hand of the suppressing eye )

Q

HOw to perform Van Orden Star

A

Purpose: tests for central suppression Method: center the sheet in the stand up stereoscope and only touching the VO star with the pencil tips, and not resting on the instrument, have the pt place the R and L pencil tips on the bottom and top shapes of the R and L sides keep both eyes open and looking in the middle , slowly draw the two pencils straight toward each other until they look like they touch , continue this until star is complete. interpretation of posture : can be interpreted by the folding method, fold in half until the shapes line up and hen fold again bisecting the line of shapes ( past the fold = eso ) or accomplished via measurement ( ortho is 34 mm fron mthe lined pics, less than 34 is exo and greater than 34 is eso )

Q

how to perform Russell ring fixations

A

purpose: good technique to use when trying to break suppression Method: using the Visacare basic fusion card , pt takes Russell ring into one hand opposite of that of the number to be ringed , pt moves ring toward the letter called out- make note if the ring disappears or the letter disappears - if it disappears need to break suppression again , hold Russell ring for 8 sec and pt looks really hard out of the eye that’s suppressing and then re do

Q

how to perform hand mirror superimposition

A

Purpose: this is good for deep, extensive suppression that stimulates first degree fusion; Method: pt views a target , mirror is held before the suppression eye and angled to see another target ; the goal is to hold both objects in simultaneous perception for as long as possible; Modify: use smaller targets

Q

How to perform TV trainer

A

Purpose: Form of passive therapy and good for distance eye teaming; Method: RG squares that either fit or cover up a large portion of the screen, place the TV trainer infront of the tv with the suction cups - if they break suppression one side will go black , put on the RG glasses

Q

how to perform red pen coloring

A

Purpose: to break suppression of the non dominant eye while both eyes are opened Method: Monocular fixation in a binocular field ; pt wears red filter over the preferred eye , nothing over the suppressed eye ;pt draws or colors a pic outlined in red with a red pen - to make it harder you can use the RG Gls and the G goes over the suppressing eye which cuts the illumination down some , the weaker eye will still be able to see it but instead of seeing it as red it will see it as black

Q

How to perform Vis a Vis test

A

Purpose: to provide the pt with visual feedback when suppression occurs; method: pt and doctor have polaroid glasses on ; face each other from 3 ft apart - if pt not suppressing he should be able to see both of the doctors eyes through the glasses ; if pt suppressed the L eye the doctors R eye would go black - distance can be increased one suppression is decreased ; Modify : pt can do standing on one foot

Q

how to perform R/G penlight

A

purpose: to break deep suppression Method: pt wears RG filters with the red over the suppressing eye , pt is in dark room, place a 10 PD vertical in front of the good eye.stand one ft from pt and shine the penlight- ask the pt what they see, they should tell you they see two images ( a red and a green light) maintain images for 10 sec, then move 2 ft away and repeast until you get 10-15 ft from pt ( further away you get from the pt and the pt stillgive you correct response, the smaller the suppression zone)

How to perform MFBF matching game :

A

distance 40 cm; purpose: to break suppression while incorporating accommodation; method: BIOCULAR, red transparent slide with black letters ( red see this ) and a white card with red letters ( G sees this), pt wears RG filters - use with +0.50/-0.50 lens fliipers

Q

how to perform Squinchel

A

purpose: to help pt compare the views of the sae images out of each eye simultaneously ; Method: usin prism glasses 20 PD , pt puts one hand in front of them ( should see two hands) see if pt knows diff betweent the two hands- have pt direct his attention to one of the two hand seen “ as you look at this one are you aware of the other hand “ tell them to move their fingers and rub the table hard with their fingertips - what do you see and what does it feel like ; ( which hand do they feel the rubbing in ), next hold a block 18 inches in front of them and hit it hard on the table several times , after telling them which block to look and ask which block made the sound - next have pt put both hands on table across from your two hands, far enough apart that they can see 4 hands in all - ask pt to look at your #1 hand and my # 1 hand amd pick up your #1 hand and place it on mine ( their hand should touch yours) now look at my #2 hand and take your #2 and put it on my #2( they will usually touch the real hand again) ; next stage is to stack two sets of blocks - what do you see - ask them to tilt their head and see if the blocks change in size or shape etc. - this is good for anti suppression bc if the pt is to not be able to discern bw hand 1 and 2 or tower 1 and tower 2 that means both eye are on ( Biocularity ) and they aren’t suppressing
