What is Beck Depression Inventory?

A

Contains 21 questions scored between 0-3, giving a total score of between 0-63. Each question relates to diffrent symptoms, but in general a score of over 21 could indicate clinical depression.

What is identifing negative thinking patterns?

A

Encourages the patient to talk about the specific difficulties they experience and to identify any negative automatic thoughts. The patient will often complete The Beck Deppression Inventory

A

A

He compared effectiveness of CBT, antidepressants and a combination of both in 327 adolesents. After 36 weeks , 81% of the antidepressant group and CBT group had showed significant improvement. 86% of the CBT and antidepressant group had significantly improoved

However an issue with CBT is that it requires motivation.

A

Patients with sever depression may not engage with CBT, or even attend the sesions and thherefore this treatment will be ineffective in treating these.
