what is the first stage of TIPPS?

A

TALK

Plaque build up on teeth around gum margin - plaque is the sticky white substance

Bacteria in the plaque irritate gums - leads to redness, swelling and bleeding

If plaque is removed, gums will be healthy again

ASK QUESTIONS
- how long do you brush for?
- how often do you brush? change brush?

A

INSTRUCT

Importance of removing plaque from all surfaces especially around gums

*patient hold mirror and wear goggles

  • 2 mins methodically
  • tooth brush half on tooth half on gums
  • 8-10 strokes in each section
  • turn brush for anteriors
