Plaque build up on teeth around gum margin - plaque is the sticky white substance
Bacteria in the plaque irritate gums - leads to redness, swelling and bleeding
If plaque is removed, gums will be healthy again
ASK QUESTIONS
- how long do you brush for?
- how often do you brush? change brush?
what is the second stage of TIPPS?
INSTRUCT
Importance of removing plaque from all surfaces especially around gums
*patient hold mirror and wear goggles
- 2 mins methodically
- tooth brush half on tooth half on gums
- 8-10 strokes in each section
- turn brush for anteriors
what is the third stage of TIPPS?

- patient toothbrushes whilst looking in mirror
