What are the 5 nexus questions?
1.) new midline, cervical tenderness?
2.) altered LOC (must be fully alert)
3.) new focal neurological deficit (can’t feel sensations)
4.) intoxicated?
5.) major distracting injury (broken leg distracting from pain in spine)
What injuries are considered potential back injuries?
-A fall greater than 3m.
-Landed on head or feet from fall.
-High speed MVC, MVC rollover, new back deformities/bruising/tenderness, and pre-existing spinal issues in back.
What injuries are considered significant?
-broken bones, major bleeds, and suspected internal bleeding.
Who is considered a high risk patient?
-Older than 65, osteoporosis, and pre-existing spinal condition.
Adult spinal management?
1.) Yes to any of the nexus questions.
-Yes- 2 or more significant injuries.
-No- High risk group?

Yes - Full SMR No- Simple SMR
Yes- Simple SMR No- Potential back injury?
3.)
Yes- Lay flat on stretcher No- No Spinal
