Q

what sttructures might be damaged by a heavy blood filled organ like the spleen quickly accelerating/deceling

Q

what is axial loading.
what kind of accidents cause this
The impact force travels along the spine while the body collapses around the injury also creating significant flexion and extension forces.

A

Axial loading occurs when energy is transmitted down the length of the spinal column.
This is the mechanism of injury involved when a person dives head first into shallow water and hits the top of his head on the bottom or when a person jumps from a significant height and lands on his feet.

Q

what kind of forces cause someone hit in the head to lose consciousness

A

The rotational force applied to the brain stem wrings blood out of the vessels that perfuse the reticular activating system and consciousness is lost.
