Trauma and Occlusion Flashcards
What is primary and secondary occlusal trauma?
Primary=Excessive force on normal periodontium (bruxism).
Secondary=Normal or excessive force on weak periodontium.
What is Gluckman’s concept?
Sites which are exposed to abnormal occlusal force will develop angular bony defects and infrabony pockets.
Match the clinical symptoms to radiographics signs.
- Increased mobility
- Fremitus
- Wear facets
- Tooth migration
- Tooth fracture
- Pulpal symptoms
- Widened PDL
- Thickened lamina dura
- Vertical bone loss
- Furcation bone loss
- Root resorption
- Alveolar radiolucency/condensation
In the absence of inflammation, occlusal trauma will do what to CT attachment?
It will not result in loss of CT attachment.
In healthy periodontium, occlusal trauma will result in what?
Increased mobility, widened PDL, loss of crestal bone height and volume.
In the presence of inflammation, occlusal trauma will result in what?
Accelerated loss of bone and CT attachment.
