Transversopinales Flashcards
Insertion of Semispinalis
Occipital bone
Spinous processes in upper thoracic and cervical regions
Spanning 4-6 segments
Origin of Semispinalis
Transverse processes of C4-T10
Thoracis, cervicis, and capitis
Main action of Semispinalis
Extends head and thoracic and cervical regions
Rotates contralaterally
Origin of Multifidus
Posterior sacrum Posterior superior iliac spine of ilium Aponeurosis of erector spinae Sacro-iliac ligaments Mammilary processes of lumbar region Transverse processes of thoracic region Articular processes of the C4-C7
Insertion of Multifidus
Fibers pass obliquely superomedially to entire length of spinous processes of vertebrae located ~ 2-4 segments superior to the origin
Action of Multifidus
Rotates contralateral side
Stabilizes vertebrae during local movements of vertebral column
Origin of the Rotatores
Transverse processes (best in thoracic region) (Brevis and longus)
Insertions of the Rotatores
Junction of lamina and transverse process or spinous process of vertebra immediately (brevis) or two (longus) superior to vertebra of origin
Action of Rotatores
Organs of proprioception
Stabilize vertebrae
Assist with local extension and rotatory movements of vertebral column
Nerve supply for all muscles
Posterior rami of spinal nerves
