Cervical Reigon Flashcards
Floor of the cervical region
Prevertebral layer of deep cervical fascia
Pharynx
Larynx
Thyroid gland
What muscles are involved?
Sternocleidomastoid
Trapezius
Clavicle (Levator scapulae, Splenius capitis, Medium and Posterior Scalenes)
Roof of the cervical region
Investing layer of deep cervical fascia
Platysma
Attachments of Anterior scalene
Superior- anterior tubercles of transverse processes of C3-C6
Inferior- 1st rib
Innervation of Anterior scalene
C4-C6
Main action of Anterior scalene
Flexes neck laterally
Elevates 1st rib during forced inspiration
Attachments of Middle scalene
Superior- Posterior tubercles of transverse processes of C4-C7
Inferior- Superior surface of 1st rib; posterior groove for subclavian artery
Innervation of Middle scalene
Anterior rami
Action of Middle scalene
Flexes neck laterally
Elevates 1st rib during forced inspiration
Attachments of Posterior scalene
Superior- Posterior tubercles of transverse processes of C4-C6
Inferior- External border of 2nd rib
Innervation of Posterior scalene
Anterior rami of C7 and C8
Superior attachment of the Sternocleidomastoid
Lateral surface of mastoid process
Lateral half of superior nuchal line
Inferior attachment of the sternocleidomastoid
Sternal head - anterior surface of manubrium of sternum
Clavicular head - superior surface of medial third of clavicle
Innervation of Sternocleidomastoid
Spinal accessory nerve (CN XI; motor)
C2 and C3 nerves (pain and proprioception)
Main action of the Sternocleidomastoid
Unilateral - Tilts head to same side + Rotates it so face is turned down superiorly toward opposite side
Bilateral - (1)Extends neck at atlanto-occipital joints, (2)Flexes cervical vertebrae so that chin approaches manubrium, (3) Extends superior cervical vertebrae while flexing inferior vertebrae so chin is thrust forward with head kept level
