  1. Damaged cells & platelets produce thrombokinase
  2. Thrombokinase concerts inactive prothrombin into active thrombin
  3. Thrombin & Ca2+ ions convert soluble fibrinogen into insoluble fibrin threads
  4. insoluble fibrin threads form mesh that traps RBCs
  5. Prevents excessive blood loss
