Transport In Humans Flashcards
1
Q
CHD Risk Factors
A
1. Diet high in cholesterol & saturated fats
- Fatty deposits accumulate on inner walls of coronary arteries
- Lumen of coronary arteries narrower
- Less O2 transported to heart muscles cells
- Heart carry out less aerobic respiration to release energy for contractions
-> They die, CHD
——
2. Smoking
- Nicotine increases fatty deposits on inner walls of coronary arteries
- Lumen of coronary arteries narrower
- Less O2 transported to heart muscles cells
- Heart carry out less aerobic respiration to release energy for contractions
-> They die, CHD
——
3. Sedentary lifestyle

Q
Blood clotting process
A
- Damaged cells & platelets produce thrombokinase
- Thrombokinase concerts inactive prothrombin into active thrombin
- Thrombin & Ca2+ ions convert soluble fibrinogen into insoluble fibrin threads
- insoluble fibrin threads form mesh that traps RBCs
- Prevents excessive blood loss
