Transport Demand - Intro Flashcards
What are the four inputs required for models?
Zones
Networks
Travel Data
Land Use
What does transport planning aim to achieve?
Equilibrium between supply and demand
What are zones?
The aggregates of individual land parcels into manageable chuncks
What are networks made up of? What parts are represented and what are ignored?
Made up of nodes and links
represent roads and PT routes
Lower order streets and routes may be aggregated or ignored
Higher order roads and routes likely to be better represented
What are nodes?
Points where trips start/end
Points where trips get on/pff the network
Points where links change shape (dummy nodes)
What are links?
Lines that connect the network to trip start/end points
Lines that represent roads
Lines that represent public transport routes
What are three of the main land use data variables?
Population based variables
Employment based variables
Education based variables
What is the main aim of travel data?
- number of trips per day
- average trip length
What is travel data disaggregated by?
- Trip purpose
- Mode
- Time of day
- Socio demographic segment
What are the three main types of travel surveys?
Observation surveys
- traffic count surveys
- public transport boardings and alightings
- number plate
- MAC address
Interview Surveys
- Roadside interview
- On-baord
- Household Interview
Travel Time Surveys
What are the key components of Transport Supply?
- Is a service
- Requires a number of fixed assets
- Requires a set of rules for operation
What are the key components of Transport Demand?
- Is a derived demand
- Takes place over space
- Is highly differentiated
- Has strong dynamic elements
What are transport models?
A simplified representation of (part of) the real work transport networl
What is the household travel survey?
A random selection of households receive a questionnaire on:
- household
- vehicle
- persons
- trips
Last SEQ travel survey was 2009/10
What generates demand for transport?
Spatial Separation of land use
