Jews were forcibly removed from their homes with little to no notice and parked onto overcrowded cattle cars
When was the Wansee conference
January 1942
What was the conditions on the cattle cars?
There was a lack of food and water, ventilation and sanitation
Were there any fatalities during transport?
Numerous people died enroute to camps due to the horrible conditions plus following the conditions and lack of sustenance in ghettos
What did the transport process do?
It dehumanized victims as they were treated as cargo to be extermanisied, although in earlier stages they were unaware of their fate.
Whilst other policies were focused on segregation and deposition….
the use of transportation and its conditions was a clear escalation from past measures.
The forced emigration was a…
clear component of the nazi’s genocidal plan to eliminate the jewish population.
Provide one piece of evidence and describe it and its affect
Hilde shermans testimony where she speaks of the lack of supplies on the journey. She describes passengers gathering snow during a stop, to later melt into drinking water as they were so dehydrated. This emphasises the desperation of the jews during the conditions of transport.
