Transplantation Immunology Flashcards
Allograft
to a genetically disparate member of the same species
Autograft
to another site on the same individual (e.g. after burns)
Hyperacute rejection
-Peformed antibodies directed against the donor tissue
-Caused by accidental ABO incompatibility
-Presents with occlusion and thrombosis of BV in surgery
Occurs within minutes to hours
Acute rejection
T cell mediated immune response directed against the foreign MHC,
Inflammation and leukocyte infiltration of graft vessels
days/weeks
Chronic rejection
Also T cell mediated process resulting from foreign
“MHC looking like” self MHC
vascular changes in graft
weeks/months/years
What cells express ABO-antigens?
All stromal cells
What is HLA?
The human MHC
