Transplantation Flashcards
autologous graft
self
syngeneic graft
identical twin
allogeneic graft
another human (not twin)
xenogeneic graft
one species to another
alloantigens (or xenoantigens)
antigens that are the target of the rejection
alloreactive and xenoreactive
Abs and T cells that react against the alloantigens or xenoantigens (“alloreactive T and B cells”)
What are the MHC-I alleles and how many does each person have?
6:
HLA-A, B, C (one from each parent)
What are the MHC-II alleles and how many does each person have?
6-8:
HLA DQ; DP (one from each parent)
HLA-DR (1 or 2 from each parent)
Why are MHC molecules considered the main target antigens of allografts?
immunological cross reaction: some of the self-referential T cells may recognize and respond to forgein MHC from the donor graft as MHC-foreign peptide complex
