transpiration pull Flashcards
1
Q
what are the steps of transpiration pull?
A
- water molecules move via osmosis continuously out of mesophyll cells to form a thin film of water of cell wall surfaces
- this thin film of water evaporates to form water vapour in the intercellular air spaces, resulting in a higher concentration of water vapour
- water vapour diffuses through the stomata into atmospheric air with lower concentration of water vapour
- the water potential of cell sap becomes more negative since water moves out to transpire. water molecules move via osmosis from the xylem of the leaf into mesophyll cells
