Q

What is tRNA?

A

Transfer RNA is a small RNA molecule that plays a key role in protein synthesis. tRNA serves as a link (or adaptor) between the mRNA molecule and the growing chain of amino acids that make up a protein.

Q

What are the diff parts of tRNA?

A

AA arm - has AA esterified via carbox grp to 2’ or 3’-OH of A terminal in CCA codon.
Anticodon arm
D arm - dihydrouridine (D), contributes to folding.
TyC arm - pseudouridine - unusual C-C bonding btwn base and ribosome. helps folding.

Q

What are wobble pairings?

A

A wobble base pair is a pairing between two nucleotides in RNA molecules that does not follow Watson-Crick base pair rules. Wobble allows tRNAs to recognise more than one codon (3rd codon adds nothing to specificity). eg redundancy of AA
