Q

what is stainless steel

A

an iron alloy that contains chromium which forms an invisible layer of chromium oxide which stops air and water from reaching the iron

A

jewellery

25
Q

A

copper mixed with zinc

26
Q

what are some properties of brass

A

hard
resistant to corrosion
good electrical conductor

27
Q

what are some uses of brass

A

electrical plugs
coins

28
Q

why is steel so strong

A

in pure iron, the atoms are all of the same size so can slide over each other easily. which makes it malleable. however when carbon atoms are added it disrupts the layers, due to the size of the carbon atoms, which makes it more difficult for the atoms to slide over each other
