Transfusion reactions Flashcards
Excess volume causes high RAP & pulmonary edema
TACO
Ab from plasma react with recipient lung tissue –> neutrophil infiltration, inflammation, and pulmonary edema
TRALI
Allergens from blood crosslink IgEs present on recipient mast cells
- degranulate HM
- Symptoms
Allergic TR
Ab binds recipient WBC and stimulates cytokine release; combined cytokines
FNHTR - Febrile non-hemolytic TR
IgM binds RBCs and activates complement
- RBC lysis and some phagocytosis to kill RBCs
Acute hemolytic TR
Acute pulmonary edema
TACO
Acute respiratory distress syndrome
Pulmonary Edema
TRALI
Hives, itching, occasionally anaphylaxix
Allergic TR
Fever, chills, high respiratory rate, anxiety, high or low BP
Febrile
Fever, chills, hypotension, hemolysis, renal damage
Acute HTR
Prevent by slow transfusion
TACO
Prevent by NOT accepting plasma
TRALI
Prevent by washed cellular components
Allergic TR
Prevent by Leukocyte reduction
Febrile
Prevent by TS and match
Acute HTR
