Transfusion Flashcards
leukoreduced
decreases the amount of contaminating leukocytes in the erythrocyte product and reduces the risk of febrile nonhemolytic transfusion reactions, cytomegalovirus transmission, and class I HLA alloimmunization and subsequent platelet transfusion refractoriness
irradiated
reduced risk of transfusion-associated graft vs host disease in severely immunocompromised
washed
reduced risk of severe allergic reaction in pts with a history of severe/recurrent allergic reactions, IgA deficiency (when IgA-deficient donors are unavailable), or complement-dependent autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Also reduces the amount of potassium transfused for use in patients who are at risk for hyperkalemia
HLA-matched
for platelet transfusion refractoriness (must also be irradiated)
