Transformers Inverters Flashcards
Transformer rectify unit.
Transformer
Only transfers AC, relies on faradays law.
Power is directly transferred without loss.
In the TRU the primary circuit displaces the large number of coils - step down transformer.
The soft iron core is magnetised by the electron flow travelling through the primary coil, this will induce a smaller voltage, same frequency in the secondary coil
Bridge rectifier
Once transformer has stepped voltage down, the current passes into 3 phase bridge rectifier.
Using a pair of diodes for each phase, the negative half of the sinusoidal wave is cancelled out and converted
into a positive – Full wave rectification.
Diode acts as a check valve, controlling direction and flow.
Static invertor
Tru converts AC into DC, static invertor does DC into AC.
Useful for frequency wild aircraft where constant frequency may be required for avionics.
Essential when aircraft is relying on batteries: ground mode or emergency electrical configured.
